Lecture on Aerials, Feeders and ATU’s by Bob Burns
November 13, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm UTC+1
Summary of a Talk on HF Aerials, Feeders and ATUs by Bob Burns G3OOU
This talk is divided into the following two sections, each with its own set of illustrations:
HF Aerials
A list of the major considerations when selecting a prospective aerial are first discussed. The talk then moves on to consider a range of full size and compact wire aerials. Included are a basic long wire and variations, a standard dipole, the classic G5RV and its variations, simple multiband HF/VHF dipoles, the use of loading coils and stubs to make a short dipole resonant on top band and a clothes line aerial. HF beams are not covered.
Open Wire Feeders and ATUs
A short session on open wire feeders and their considerable benefits is followed a section on ATUs.These should really be called Aerial Matching Units but we still call them ATUs from habit. This section looks at the presenter’s home made dual Z-Match covering 1.8 – 146MHz.
On display will be a clothes line aerial, some home made open wire feeder plus construction jigs and the dual Z-Match.
